JMPC - About Us

Joensuu Multicultural Photography Club (JMPC)

Joensuu Multicultural Photography Club (hosted by JoMoni) is an amateur photography workshops/club in Joensuu. Here we share our knowledge and skills, learn from others and have fun while learning and practicing photography.

Ideological background:

The goal of our club is to improve and strengthen communication among people from different backgrounds. This special interest group creates an environment where we can learn as much as possible about photography from others. Improving understanding between people from different backgrounds is challenging, but we shall have the goal to take interesting pictures from the life of people from different backgrounds living in North-Karelia, Joensuu.

For whom?

The club is for everyone who is interested in learning and sharing techniques, knowledge and related to photography. Either you are just learning or want to learn advanced technique on different levels of photography, you are welcome to join. We have regular meetings every week where each sessions are dedicated to learn more about different topics of photography. Sometimes, we will also ask visitors and some professional photographer to come and give us some presentation on special topic that might interests us.

How to become a member of JMPC?

When you become member of JMPC, you automatically become the member of our supporting association Jomoni (www.jomoni.fi). This means you support our activities, you promote tolerance and you augment the influence of the club. Follow two easy step to become our member:

What will you get?

Apart from learning photography and meeting cool people in general, you also get an opportunity to display/share your work (personally or in groups) through meetings, competitions and maybe assignments, and we can also learn through other critiques. Our club's mentor and professional photographer Jarno Pääkkönen have many years of experience in different areas of photography. The guest presenters or professionals, maybe once in a month will broaden our photographic horizons. Moreover, we believe that taking pictures in group is fun and resourceful. Thus, we sometimes organize regular field trips or groups excursions and events where we go in groups and put our learning in practice. This helps to get practical experience and socialize with other members. As per the request of many members, we decided to change some of our privileges to membership:
 - Only members will get notes from the meetings, workshops.
 - They can participate in excursions, submit photos for exhibitions.
 - Can make influence to the decisions, and plans for the club.
