Tule luomaan uutta suomalaisuutta kanssamme!

Let´s create new Finnishness together!

Joensuu Multicultural Association (JoMoni) is celebrating the New Finnishness Day on Monday May 12th, 2014, for the sixth time. This year, the party is preceded by a creative process, the results of which will be displayed at the party. For this purpose, the Joensuu Multicultural Photography Club(JMPC) will produce in good time before the party a set of photos that are open for creative interpretation by you, artists of different fields. The interpretations can be in the form of pictures, music, dance, texts etc. The products of this artistic process, based on photos by members of the Joensuu Multicultural Photography Club (JMPC), will form the core of the New Finnishness Party. There will dance, music, recitals of texts, paintings and other artistic work. Whatever it will be − it is up to you, our counterparts!
Join us for this exciting project that provides a way to new discussions and new artistic work!

Special sesssion with JMPC : Tuukka Pakarinen and his thoughts about photography as a business

Tuukka Pakarinen is a photographer and videographer from Joensuu, Finland. Tuukka took his first pictures when he found his mom´s camera at the age of five. Picture was a great piece of art. A portrait including about half of his babysitter backside before she find out what Tuukka was doing. It was the beginning.

Many years after Tuukka took some more pictures and eventually people started ask him to take some pictures of their weddings, bands, movie projects etc. Tuukka also decided to take some lessons for it in Karelia university of applied sciences, where he did his bachelor studies of media.

Pictures were okay because Tuukka got some more photo jobs or client did not knew each other. Anyway Tuukka decided to turn his hobby to a business and in spring 2013 he launched his own website www.tuukkapakarinen.com and started his company. That was another beginning of something new and that is what he wants to talk about.

In this session with JMPC, Tuukka is going to discuss about photography as an business, how to start, when to start? Some views to difference fields of photography from weddings to music and child portraits. Thoughts about photographers own projects - just for fun or important part of your own marketing? Your personality as a tool when dealing with your customers and what else you need to get your pictures done.

Tuukka would also like to invite you and have the possibility to network and have a chat about photography, camera gear etc. He will bring some of his own gear and if people are interested can tell about what he needs when working in locations etc.

Joensuu will first time take part in Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk.

Joensuu will for the first time take part in Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk ( #WWPW ) on October 5, 2013. Come and take part in the global photography walk. Seats are limited to 50 people.

Here is information about the photo walk from previous walks we made:
Usually, there is no theme in photo walk. Everyone comes their camera, phones, etc and shoot whatever comes during the walk, everyone walking same path takes different types of photo based on their interest. Being with other photographers helps one to see things in ways others hadn’t noticed before.

Here is the link and more information about the walk in Joensuu:

Date: Saturday, October 5, 2013
Time: 03:00pm - 06:00pm
Location Details: next to the Joensuu wolf statue in Kauppakatu
After the walk, meet at: behind Joensuu city theatre. We can goto Coffee house.

Photo Walk Description
We will meet next to the statue of the wolf which is in Kauppakatu. Walking through the Keskuskuja, we walk next to the Art museum and walk through the beautiful walking path of Siltakatu. There we walk between the beautiful falling yellow leaves until Länsikatu. Then we turn to the Friendship park located at the corner of Siltakatu, Länsikatu and Koskikatu. We spend some time there. After that we continue along Koskikatu, next to the Joensuu city library, forward to the school, Carelicum. We go through the yard of Arts and Crafts centre next to Carlson. We come out from the Rantakatu, cross the street, go next to the river. Then we walk under the Suvantosilta bridge and end our walk behind the Joensuu City theatre.

Things to consider:
- Camera(s), batteries fully charged. It is advised that you don’t bother taking all your camera gears but think beforehand what kind of photos you take and thus take only one lens with you, lighters the better.
- A good walking shoes, preferably warm and can stand wet situation. You should be able to manage with your sports shoes or rubber boots.
- Comparatively warm clothes.
- Food / snacks after the walk or during the walk.
- Just in case it rains, take umbrella or raincoat.

Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk is the world’s largest global social photography event in the history of photography itself. It takes place on the same day around the world where photographers of all walks of life and skill levels gather together, usually in downtown areas to socialize, learn new tips from each other, and explore their corner of the world through photography.

JMPC excursion to Kolvananuuro Nature Reserve / JMPC:n retki Kolvananuuron luonnonpuistoon!

BOOM !! So here comes the information for the ultimate Kolvananuuro Nature Reserve trip for the beautiful Autumn. For Finnish read along ...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When? Saturday (21.9) 21st of September, 2013
Where to meet? We gather in front of our meeting place which is located in front of Kela office (Koulukatu 24B).
Time? We meet at 9:30. Please be there in time so that we can stick to our plan and people can spend more time in Kolvananuuro Nature Reserve than waiting for you in a parking lot.
How long? the schedule for the trip is planned to be from 10-16, but we might also be late or earlier than that.
How much does it cost? We don't have to pay for any activity, but we will collect the fuel which might be around 5 euros for both ways altogether. It's good if you could take coins with you so that it is easy to pay small amount of money right away.

Plan: It takes about 30 minutes drive to Kolvananuuro Nature Reserve from Joensuu. In Kolvananuuro, we start walking from the parking lot along the marked trail which is about 5 km. We take our food and everything you need with you, and use the fireplace after we have a good hiking.
The beautiful nature of Kolvananuuro is about 35 km north from Joensuu and has interesting geological formation between rocks. The area is little bit different than normal Finnish landscape and has quite diverse vegetation. We will make a trip there and take a walk in the gorge between the rocks, and in the end make fire and eat something. The idea is not to be competitive or fast but to enjoy the beautiful nature together and watch at the forest and sky and birds, smell the place. If somebody wishes to take break or want to see some place longer, it is also possible. There is a good fireplace, trash place that we can use, so take food and maybe sausages. It is also possible to swim in one of the beautiful beach.

What you need:
- Camera(s), batteries fully charged.
- A good hiking shoes, preferably water resistance. No sleepers, flipflops etc. If you don't have hiking boots, you should be able to manage with your sports shoes or rubber boots.
- Comparatively warm clothes
- food / snacks after the walk or during the walk. There is a fireplace to make food so take some sausage, bread, salad, or something you want to eat. Please buy those food before you come so that we can stick to our plan. Somebody can take mustard, firesticks for sausages, matches, paper
- Just in case it rains, take umbrella or raincoat, some dry clothes to change
- Charge the batteries for both mobile phones and camera.
( Note: You don't need warm clothes during the walk as we will probably be somehow walking uphill, so also take light clothes for the walk, but during stops you might need some warm clothes.)

These suggested routes are probably not friendly for baby-carrier-cars. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, please reply to this message, or call Barun (0466668714, barunkhanal@gmail.com).

IMPORTANT: we need to know how many cars we need, so when you get this message, please reply immediately if you are coming or not, even replying "I am (not)coming" is enough. Since the time is very soon, we are only able to count the people who replies that they are coming. Since we dont have contact information of all the people, please forward this message to your friends who are interested.

JMPC:n retki Kolvananuuron luonnonpuistoon!
HURAA; KOLVANANUURO! SYYSRETKI!

Englanninkielinen teksti kertoo enemmän. Tässä lyhyesti:
Lauantaina 21.9.
Kokoontuminen klo 9.30 Kelan edessä, rakennus, missä JMPC kokoontuu. Koulukatu 24B.
Matkaan menee noin puoli tuntia. Kolvananuurolla teemme n. 5 km retken.

JMPC in Joen Yö !

On Friday, 30.8, JMPC will be presenting its activity and inviting people to join during Joen Yö. We will also try to answer to visitors queries and talk with you and your feedback. The idea is to make JMPC visible to other people and invite them to join if they are interested. Jarno Artika will also be promoting his new photobook "Joensuu virtaa uusin ilmein -kaupunkikirja" during the event.

We would like to exhibit photos from our past exhibition in this one event. So we request all photographers who have had their photo exhibit in our exhibition in past to bring them to yourself to our next meeting. If you cannot come, you can also hand it with someone or ask me to make arrangement to get the photos from you. We will then setup those photo in our stall in Joen Yö. It would be nice to have photos from each exhibition that we had in past.

Location: Surakanpiha talo, the old yellow wooden house in Taitokorttelin pihapiiri, Suvantokatu 2/Rantakatu 11-13
Date and time: Friday 30.8,  16 - 21
Joen Yö: http://www.joenyo.fi/tapahtumat.html#.Ug4CGmT08Vk
Come and say hi to us if you are there. See you there !

UPDATE: Joen yö was busiest exhibition for JMPC so far. There were estimated visitors around 600 people. The historical atmosphere of the Surakan talo suit perfectly for the exhibition; Joensuu town was established in 1848 and the house was built after 2 years Joensuu was established.
